Topshop's Dress of the Season

"Photo real florals" are it for S/S 09, according to the folks at Topshop. Amazingly prescient in all things retail, Topshop is tipping the photographic corset dress, $90., as a top seller for the season. As you can see, these are not wallflower florals-- Topshop suggests accesories that "clash as much as possible." Will do. Neon bangles, tough girl bags and gladiators complete the look:

Good to know the glads are still in fashion. Recycle the Romans!

20% off Tory Burch until January 30th

To celebrate the launch of their new site, Tory Burch is offering customers 20% off their order of $300. or more. Just use code CELEBRATE at checkout.

While I am not a TB devotee (I remember some of those fabrics from the banquettes at Hojos...) I am a fan of her accessories, when used in moderation. For instance:

Chrissy Tote, $395. Has that 70's Gucci vibe, while preppy in construction.

Anya sandals, $250. A little pricey for a pair of metallic huaraches, but I LOVE the idea of the modest Latin American sandal gone luxe.

Reva, $195. The Revalution spawned a ton of rip-offs...

Actually, looking at the Resort/Pre-Spring collection, I was a bit harsh in my assessment of her fabrics. This collection has an African feel to it, and I like the artisinal touches. So much better than her usual "nooner at the Idlewild Airport Motel" geometric prints. Maybe it's just me, but if I see one more socialite dressed in a Tory tunic... It's like Lily Pulitzer meets Populuxe. Okay, we get it already.

Wildfox Couture

"They know the earth needs help. They know it needs peace to fall upon it like rain. Blonde and dark hair sweeping the night. They dance beneath the muted stars and reach out their arms to collect moonlight in jars. "

Honestly, I have no idea what this means.

The quote above is from the "About Us" section of the Wildfox Couture site. (And what does "helping the earth" have to do with the Wildfox photo shoot of barely legals in tees and panties at a do-it-yourself car wash/dump in Eagle Rock? Huh? I pass that place nearly every day. Nobody looks like that. They tend to wear clothes when they're sudsing their 4 x 4's. And they also tend to be fed, well-fed, as the car wash is smack dab between Pete's and The Oinkster. Ah, Eagle Rock.)

Look, all you need to know is that Wildfox is white hot. Seen on Eva Mendes, Lindsay Lohan, Alessandra Ambrosio, Vanessa Hudgens, Audrina Patridge---all the usual suspects--Wildfox is all about cheeky chic. This is a colleciton of ultra-soft cotton tees and hoodies emblazoned with eyecatching graphics, cut to flatter your shapely assets; the Wildfox fit is relaxed (but not shapeless), hugging your top and flaring out at the torso.

Witness the love affair with Wildfox's "Love Potion No. 9" tee:

20% off Sunglasses at J Ransom

Despite the frigid temperatures (it dipped below 80 here in Cali today), a good pair of sunglasses is always a necessary accessory. Snowbank glare and fash pack stares are equally brutal: You need to protect and represent. You might enhance your vision with HD Wraparounds, but not your reputation.

To the rescue comes J. Ransom, and the ideal selection of shades from Tom Ford, Beryll and Oliver Peoples. In addition to being the most wanted sunglasses in L.A., all three brands have a retro quality to them that is sure to please.

First, we have Tom Ford and his continued love affair with all things '70's:

Can't you just see Bianca Jagger stepping off a jet in these "Tatiana" sunglasses ($390.)? It's right out of the early '70's.

Speaking of jets, how about aviator perfection in these Tom Ford "Charles" sunglasses ($295.)? The slight curve helps them hug that gorgeous face of yours.

From 70's looks to 80's styles from Beryll. How much do these "Conte" shades ($310.) remind you of the Porsche sunglasses EVERYONE had in the mid-80's?

Oliver Peoples, who along with Armani, brought back the 40's look in the early 90's, does the smaller frame. These "Vanguard" ($345.) shades are very Sartre on a Vespa. (Do you think he let Simone drive?)

J. Ransom is now offering 20% OFF ALL SUNGLASSES with promo code: SUNGLASSES. Get yourself a new look---or an old one.

Gap--25% off Jeans Event until January 19th

Three words: Long and Lean. If you haven't snagged a pair (or two) of Gap's bestselling Long and Lean jeans, now is the time. Until January 19th, save 25% on a selection of Gap jeans in store and online. For those of you who swear by Joe's or Sevens, you will not be disappointed by Gap Long and Leans. These jeans are true to their name: the fit is exceptional, and they really do make you look about 8-10 pounds thinner. (I like to size up so they hang a little lower at the waist...)

For $37. on sale, you cannot go wrong! (At the full price of $50. you can't go wrong either. That's about one quarter the price of Joe's, Sevens, or Citizens.)

DVF SALE--70% off until January 16th

Already posted in the forums, but thought I'd remind you about Diane Von Furstenberg's 70% off sale. The sale only runs through January 16th, and the selection is fairly small, but there are a couple of gems:

The DVF Nikki dress, a floor length silk dress with criss cross top, is available in Purple (as shown) and Black. Retail price: $650. Sale price: $195.

GG Winners

Looks like more misses than hits on the red carpet at this year's Golden Globes. Certainly missing on some was underwear:

While others channeled Sgt. Pepper Anderson

Glenn Close is sublime, but not in this brocade Nehru number. Sure, it's "age appropriate", but since you don't look anywhere near 60, what's the hurry? Anyone who has seen Damages knows you have a rockin' bod---show it off!

Mickey Rourke didn't disappoint...

And Robert Downey Jr. was also true to form

The winner in the style stakes was Eva Mendes in Dior. She had everyone else wishing they'd left the diamonds at home and worn turquoise instead!

Not really a fan of "girly" colors like yellow and pink, but that was before I saw Christina Applegate in this butter yellow Roberto Cavalli. (That's his?!) Girl looked gorgeous.

Haven't seen too many kudos for Cameron, but this one-shouldered Pepto pink Chanel gown was pretty:

Speaking of pretty, (beautiful, actually) Freida Pinto could have shown up in her bathrobe and no makeup and still been the best-looking actress there. Not loving the dress, but who cares?

Emma, I love you. You brought your Swiffer!

New Year. New Look.

Two infamous blondes are beginning the New Year with makeovers. These diva divorcees are back in the game, bidding adieu to their spouses and their hairstyles. .

Blonde Number One: Heather Mills lopped off her long sunkissed locks and opted for a vampy, platinum look that Sharon Stone herself would envy.

Frankly, I think this look fits her personality much better than the Body Shop-Birkenstock hair. This is a shade not found in nature, but plentiful in human nature--it's called Blatantly Fake. And it works. High maintenance? Hell yes. And worth every damn penny.

Blonde Number Two: Madonna straightens out her Medusa waves and ends up with hair that is vibrant, shiny and sleek.

This look does wonders for her complexion. I don't know who is responsible for the remarkable transformation (Ben Skervin is rumored to be her hairdresser of late) but she has gone from overprocessed (and overexposed) to dewy fresh and drop dead gorgeous.

Active Endeavors--55% off

Not going to speculate, but I am going to say that if you've had your eye on something at Active, now would be a good time to grab it. Right now. Active is having an "End of Season" clearance sale, and has reduced all items by 55%. No coupon code necessary.

All sales final.

Anyhow, here are a few of the better buys:

"Like best girlfriends"

Though there are many sales, bargains and store closings to report, I didn't want the first post of the New Year to be about money. Or lack thereof.

My best friend sent me this video a couple of days ago. It's two minutes of what really matters.

Try not to cry...
